December 1993: Daewoo Motor established a Joint-venture with Vietnamese partner
Being granted investment license on December 14 th, 1993, Vietnam-Daewoo Motor Company Limited (VIDAMCO) was officially established as a joint-venture between Daewoo Motor Corporation ( Korea) and the 7983 Mechanic Union Enterprise under Ministry of Defense. The Company’s total investment is 32 million USD (including 10 million USD – legal capital) in a 30 year period.

January 1995: VIDAMCO Assembly plant construction
The first bricks were used to make the foundation of VIDAMCO assembly plant in Tu Hiep Commune, Thanh Tri District, Hanoi

April 1995: First product built up
Cielo – the first product of VIDAMCO was started assembling in SKD. The emergence of Cielo in Vietnam market changed people’s habit on a simple inland transportation mode and drove customers to a more convenience.

March 1996: Company construction completion
After more than one year of construction, 3 storey office building, factory and auxiliary facilities were completed. This enabled the Company to operate assembly line for passenger car smoothly with annual capacity of 10,000 units per one shift.

April 1996: Production of Cielo in CKDII
With the advanced auto manufacturing technology from Korea, Cielo was on production line in CKDII. This model in a short time gained favors from Vietnamese customers, especially taxi companies in the newly emerging business of taxi with big order for their fleet.

September 1996: Production of Bus started
Bus factory was completed and came in operation with annual capacity of 500 units. Daewoo buses for the purposes of inter-provincial transportation and company’s use was launched to the market. VIDAMCO became the first bus manufacturer in Vietnam with high quality buses BS090 and BS105.

June 1998: Introduce Leganza and Nubira to Vietnam market
To bring the customers to new surprises at Daewoo technology and design, Leganza 2.0 and Nubira 1.6/ 2.0 were unveiled in the market, targeting in government agencies and private sectors.

September 1998: Matiz – small car rises up in Vietnam
Matiz – Small but Mighty is a family car. Its appearance in the market at the first time made a big hit in the sales volume. Vietnamese habit of traveling was changed from a luxurious motorbike like Spacy to a small car – Matiz because of its compact, convenience and affordability.

February 2000: Introduce Nubira Powernomics to Vietnam market
Following the success of Nubira I in Vietnam market, VIDAMCO continues its new product program by launching Nubira Powernomics. Powernomics means powerful and economic. This is a new concept of engine with combination between capacity and fuel consumption.

April 2000: License of 100% foreign invested enterprise
In April 2000, Daewoo Motor got approval from Vietnam Government to take share from Vietnamese partner. VIDAMCO became the first 100% foreign invested auto maker in Vietnam. This turning point marked its independent operation and promised a sustainable development and long-term investment.

June 2000: Introduce new model – Daewoo Lanos to Vietnam market
To celebrate its reorganization under 100% foreign investment, VIDAMCO launched Daewoo Lanos, the running instincts – nice looking appearance and outstanding specifications.

January 2001: Production of Bus CKD II for exporting to IRAQ
VIDAMCO got a big deal with General Automobile Machinery Company (GAMCO) to export 525 Daewoo Buses BS106 to IRAQ. These contracts were under batter trade and oil for food programs between the two countries – Vietnam and IRAQ. In January 2001, VIDAMCO mobilized all the available resources including manpower, technology and facilities to operate the production line for Bus BS106 for export purpose.

June 2001: First shipment of Buses to IRAQ
Along with the campaign World class quality” and 3 Z: Zero Delay, Zero Delay, Zero Cripple, VIDAMCO’s employees made great efforts to intensify production by 02 shifts per day. In June 2001, the first lot of Daewoo Buses were shipped to IRAQ through Hai Phong Port, keeping the delivery in time as scheduled.

December 2001: Production of Bus BS090/ BS105 for Hanoi City Bus Project
Getting bidding award to supply city buses to Hanoi Transportation and Services Corporation (Hanoi Transerco), VIDAMCO started production of Daewoo Bus BS090 – medium bus and BS105 – large bus. Powerful engine, strong loading capacity and convenience, these were 02 preferable models for passenger transportation inner city. With such bus supply, VIDAMCO helped improve the public transportation system in Hanoi and ease traffic congestion by inducing Hanoian to move from motorbike to public transportation mode.

February 2002: Introduce Daewoo Magnus 2.0 to Vietnam
Elegant and stylish Magnus 2.0 was unveiled in Vietnam for the first time by VIDAMCO. Nice design and perfect performance brought Magnus customers’ favor in a short time.

August 2002: Introduce New Matiz to Vietnam
After great success of Matiz I in Vietnam market since 1998, VIDAMCO decided to launch New Matiz – a new version of Matiz I to satisfy the increasing demand of customers for small car. Young and sportive style, New Matiz passed over all its competitors in the same segment with big quantity sold in the market.

August 2002: Receive Complimentary Certificate from Ministry of Trade
VIDAMCO has great honor to receive Complimentary Certificate from Ministry Trade for its great achievement in export activities in 2001. The two contracts on exporting 525 Daewoo Buses to IRAQ valued at over 30 million USD were successfully expedited with good comments from IRAQ’s partner.

October 2002: Being a member of GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co. (GMDAT)
In October 2002, General Motors (USA) took over Daewoo Motor Co. in Korea and launched GM Daewoo Auto & Technology Co. (GMDAT) to great fanfare. GM Daewoo - a company combines the strength of the world’s largest automaker and global network, the GM Group, with the best resources of the old Daewoo Motor. Accordingly, VIDAMCO became a member of GMDAT and a part of GM global manufacturing network.

December 2002: Be the winner of the Golden Dragon Prize 2002
“The cost-effective product most liked by customers” is awarded to VIDAMCO through “The Golden Dragon Prize 2002” organized by Vietnam Economic Times and MPI.

March 2003: Unveil new logo – GM Daewoo in Vietnam
March 7 th, 2003 marked a decisive moment for VIDAMCO in the local market when it adopted a new logo – GM Daewoo which is the brand of General Motors (GM) and Daewoo. The new logo adoption brought VIDAMCO a new image which can be described in three words: Growth as an automaker – Stability in all the operations – Trust between company and customers.

October 2003: Celebrate the 10 th Anniversary of VIDAMCO Foundation
On October 17, 2003, VIDAMCO celebrated its 10 anniversary of Foundation with many exciting activities. It could be called as “Family Home Coming Day” with the participation of VIDAMCO’s members and their family. Ten year development is also ten year unending efforts of all VIDAMCO management and employees to keep its prestige and strong foothold in Vietnam market.

December 2003: Receive Complimentary Certificate from Ministry of Planning and Investment
On December 29, 2003, VIDAMCO received Complimentary Certificate issued by Ministry of Planning and Investment for its great achievement for the past years. MPI highly appreciated the positive contribution of VIDAMCO to the economic development as well as its well-implemented investment commitments in Vietnam.

January 2004: Launch GM Daewoo Magnus Eagle and Magnus L6
Focus on technology innovation, product development and quality improvement, VIDAMCO made Vietnamese customers surprised at GM Daewoo technology by launching 02 models: Magnus Eagle 2.0 and Magnus L6 2.5. Magnus L6 embodies the power of one line 6 cylinders engine with the fuel consumption of 4 cylinders – the new era of the 6 cylinders engine 2,500 cc. The launch of those models blew a fresh vitality to the car market in early 2004.

February 2004: Receive ISO 9001 - ISO 14001 certificates; and the Golden Dragon Prize 2003
In February 2004, VIDAMCO honorably received ISO 9001 for Quality Management System and ISO 14001 for Environment Management System issued by BVQI and accredited by ANSI * RAB EMS
Also in February 2004, “The Golden Dragon Prize 2003” was awarded to VIDAMCO for “The most cost-effective product”.

April 2004: Introduce GM Daewoo Lacetti to Vietnam
On April 20, 2004, VIDAMCO launched a brand new model in the medium sized sedan – GM Daewoo Lacetti 1.8 and 1.6 – “energetic, muscular, youthful and full of strength”. Its style and design were achieved through world re-known Italian design company plus GM Daewoo Technical Center.

September 2004: Receive Complimentary Certificate from Ministry of Industry
On September 21 st, 2005, Ministry of Industry delivered Compliment Certificate to VIDAMCO for good achievement in automobile manufacturing for the past years and a Medal for Industrial Development to VIDAMCO’s General Director.

January 2005: Be the winner of the Golden Dragon Prize 2004
For the 3 consecutive years, VIDAMCO gained the Golden Dragon Prize 2004 for “The most cost-effective product”. This has proven that GM Daewoo’s products have been accredited by customers nationwide for its quality and cost-efficiency.

March 2005: Introduce Magnus L6 Diamond and Color Matiz
With a view to offering Vietnamese customers an optimal product line-up, on March 11, 2005 VIDAMCO introduced the 02 new versions – Magnus L6 Diamond, auto transmission, inline 6 cylinders for 2,000 cc engine and Color Matiz, fantastic and colorful. The refined style, sporty look and fuel economy has brought the two models broad-based popularity at home and abroad.

July 2005: Receive Prime Minister’s Merit Diploma
In July 2005, VIDAMCO honorably receive Prime Minister’s Merit Diploma for making good achievement in business activities in the 2001 – 2003 period and contributing to the national development and defense.

 

Jan. 20, 2006: Launch GM Daewoo Gentra to Vietnam
GM Daewoo Gentra was launched in Vietnam – the second market after South Korea. Gentra strives towards luxury and economy. This is a brand new model with GM Daewoo technology and Italian design. Gentra is the smart choice for those who want both value and class in a single package.

Jan. 20, 2006: Receive Golden Dragon Prize 2005
This is the forth time, VIDAMCO has honorably received The Golden Dragon Prize for “The most cost-effective product”. VIDAMCO has so far kept the strong foothold in the Vietnam market and it is well recognized as the company with good business activities.
